Sylvester Stallone workout routines
Ever since my teenage years I’ve been a fan and i have spent countless hours searching for Sylvester Stallone workout and training routines. I grew up with the Rambo and Rocky movies. His muscular, shredded and athletic physique stands as perfection and has been a big motivation for me in my own training. Watching five minutes of a Rambo movie and I’m so fired up to go training, that I can’t sit still. He was the symbol at that time, along with Arnold Schwarzenegger of a real action hero. A MAN!

In order to prepare for his demanding action roles, Sly is no stranger to the gym, and even in his sixties the Sylvester Stallone workout gives him a body that would put guys half his age to shame!
Sylvester first got his inspiration to pursue exercise and nutrition when he saw Steve Reeves (a former Mr. Universe) in HERCULES! At 13 years old, Sylvester was astounded with films such as ‘Hercules: Unchained’ ‘Goliath and the Barbarians’ and ‘The Thief of Baghdad.’
“I’ve always been very interested in how you can manipulate your body to do things that you didn’t normally think were possible. I started out as a thin child. So when I started getting into the idea of exercise, it was more for developing a positive mental outlook. I realized the better and stronger I felt, the more I was ready to face life. From an early age, I realized that mental happiness and being optimistic about life is tied to how you feel physically. It’s hard to feel bad physically and want to enjoy life and face challenges. You have to balance the two.”
Steroids or not you still have to admire the raw dedication and intensity Sylvester Stallone puts forward in his workout and training routines to build his impressive Hollywood action movie star physique. The physique he presents in the movie, The Expendables, stands as a testimonial that it’s never too late to get in amazing shape, or keep training with intensity, to stay “young” as an aging man.
On the subject of steroids here’s what Sly have to say when he admitted use of human growth hormone (HGH) and prescription testosterone while going theough the Sylvester Stallone workout for Rambo and Rocky V:
“HGH [human growth hormone] is nothing,” Stallone said. “Anyone who calls it a steroid is grossly misinformed. Testosterone to me is so important for a sense of well-being when you get older. Everyone over 40 years old would be wise to investigate it because it increases the quality of your life. Mark my words: In 10 years it will be over-the-counter.”
I’m not that thrilled of the Sylvester Stallone workout and training routines. It’s typical bodybuilding splits – train till you drop dead for trainees on steroids. You could say his training accompanies the “tough man never gives up” roles typical for a Stallone Hollywood movie.
The Sylvester Stallone workout:
Heres the training schedule Stallone used for Rambo 2 where he got help from former Mr. Olympia Franco Columbo:
MONDAY/WEDNESDAY/FRIDAY
Morning: Chest, back, abs
Afternoon: Shoulders, arms, abs
TUESDAY/THURSDAY/SATURDAY
Morning: Calves, thighs
Afternoon: Rear delts, traps, abs
On this program Stallone gained 10 pounds of muscle in little over 6 weeks.
The rigorous training would continue in Rocky 3. Stallone went into a murderous training regime! Sylvester began the day with a two mile jog, than went to 18 rounds of sparring, 2 hours of weightlifting and jumping rope. After all this he took a nap sometime in the afternoon, after his short nap he went running some more! He would finish the day with a swim. A true Sylvester Stallone workout!
Along the insanely demanding Sylvester Stallone workout and training routines where even more ridiculous diet regimes.
Diets consisting of only 200 calories a day, all protein food, with an occasional potato, just so he wouldn’t faint and 10 egg whites and a burnt piece of toast once a day, and a piece of fruit every third day, were how Stallone ripped his body of all possible fat. The shear willpower to stay on such diets is remarkable.
I trained for many years on such splits and got nowhere. Finally I saw the light and found the training methods that finally gave me the “Rambo” physique I wanted since I started training.
It seems that Sylvester Stallone also have come to the same conclusion regarding his Sylvester Stallone workout and training routines after all these years:
“I follow a high-protein diet: Anything with a face, that’s what I eat, with something green next to it,”
“Over the years, my biggest flaw was overtraining. In the gym six days a week, doing more sit-ups at night … my body was in a constant state of breakdown. Now I focus on a variety of exercises, working out three times a week for 90 minutes per session. I really feel good–much stronger than I’ve ever felt, actually. Something’s working.” - April 2010 regarding the Sylvester Stallone workout routines while training for the Hollywood action movie The Expendables.
